Who’s Your Diva? Katrina Lee

JLO: What was your first memorable public performance?

KL: Rebecca Nurse in the Crucible. Arthur Miller’s play is timeless. Sadly, it seems that there will always be human beings that can’t coexist with others who walk a different path.

JLO: Who are three singers who have influenced you throughout your singing career and why?

KL: Joni Mitchell, Cyndi Lauper, and Pat Benetar. They aren’t afraid to tell it as they see it and in their own way.

JLO: Who are some local performers who inspire you?

KL: Rhonni Bear, Heather Mitchell, Luke Weld, and so many others. We are truly blessed to have such a rich, diverse group of performers in this town. They each are constantly excelling in their craft.

JLO: What are three songs you absolutely love to sing?

KL: River, Summertime, and Sisters of Avalon. The lyrics impart wonderful imagery.

JLO: What is your favorite local role or performance?

KL: Rachel Lynde from

Anne of Green Gables. She had so much spunk and never pulled punches!

JLO: What’s your favorite place to sing (besides the stage)?

KL: In the kitchen while I’m cooking. Cooking and singing are two of my favotite things to do! I love singing the songs I love while cooking for the ones I love.

JLO: What’s a famous movie or theatre role you would love the chance to play?

KL: Queen Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She’s regal, loyal, and gets to make an “ass” of herself.

JLO: What are some of your other interests besides singing?

KL: I like to act and gather props for assorted productions. Acting and singing both require you to step out of your comfort zone and show an aspect of yourself that not everyone gets to see on a regular basis. Finding and/or making the perfect prop lends to the believability of the world that the play is taking place in.
