Who’s Your Diva? Libby Bakalar

Editor’s note: The Capital City Weekly is featuring two divas a week leading up to Juneau Lyric Opera’s Sept. 24 “Who’s Your Diva” competition and fundraiser. JLO: What was your first memorable public performance?

LB: Last year’s JLO Divas Event!

 

JLO: Who are three singers who have influenced you throughout your singing career?

LB: Axl Rose, the Indigo Girls, and my husband/hype man, Geoff Kirsch.

 

JLO: Who are local performers who inspire you?

LB: Shona Osterhaut, Collette Costa, and Christina Apathy.

 

JLO: What are three songs you absolutely love to sing?

LB: Sweet Baby James, Closer to Fine, and Patience.

 

JLO: What is your favorite local role or performance?

LB: That’s a toss-up between Divas 2015 and several iterations of Mudrooms.

 

JLO: What is your favorite place to sing (besides the stage)?

LB: The shower and my kids’ bedrooms!

 

 

JLO: What is a famous movie or theatre role you would love the chance to play?

LB: Rizzo in Grease. I played her in a camp play when I was 11, but I’d love to do it again at 40.

 

JLO: What are some of your other interests besides singing?

LB: Skiing, hiking, blogging at One Hot Mess, and talking.
