Juneau residents are invited to join Cooperative Extension and local experts this summer to go on the wild side with Wild Kitchen Walks.
Participants will gather local, wild edible plants and learn about their uses in cooking. The first monthly session, Wild Spring Greens, will be offered April 30. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. for a two-hour foraging walk at the Troy Avenue dead end off of Highland Drive. After lunch, at 1 p.m, they will meet again at the Northern Lights United Church kitchen. Plants the group may collect and cook with this month include nettles, fireweed shoots, devil’s club shoots, violets, and other emerging buds and shoots.
Participants may register at www.bit.ly/ces-workshops by April 28. The walk is $10 and the kitchen session is $25, or $30 for both. For more information, contact the Juneau District Extension office at 907-523-3280.
