As the snow piles up in and around Juneau, avalanches are going to once again become part of residents’ lives.
Alaska Electric Light and Power Avalanche Forecaster Mike Janes is sharing his knowledge about how avalanches form and what people can watch for. Admission is free to Janes’ talk, which takes place from 7-8 p.m. tonight at Amalga Distillery downtown.
The event is sponsored by Foggy Mountain Shop, Alaska Avalanche School (where Janes is an instructor) and Amalga Distillery. There will be free gear giveaways.
