The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council is inviting artists to create a piece of wearable art for 2017’s Wearable Arts Extravaganza.
The theme is “Renaissance,” and the deadline for applications and registration is 5 p.m. Dec. 15.
Wearable Art is an annual event in which Juneauites of all ages and abilities create unique pieces of art and model them on the runaway. Past years have included dresses made of wood or from found materials, a group costumed as airplanes and statement pieces about human rights and beauty.

To enter Wearable Art 2017, artists need to fill out the form online at the JAHC’s website, www.jahc.org, pay a $40 registration fee and email sketches or photos to meghan@jahc.org. Hard copies are accepted as well and can be delivered to the Juneau Arts and Culture Center. The fee is payable at the JACC, Hearthside Books, by phone at 586-2787 or online at www.jahc.org.
The 2017 show will take place on Feb. 11 and 12 at Centennial Hall. Margeaux Ljungberg will serve as the director and Akiko Nishijima-Rotch as the set designer. A panel of judges will select artists to be awarded cash prizes and all entries will be judged by popular vote at both performances, as in previous years.
An artist orientation and info session will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the JAHC gallery and provide an opportunity for artists to meet the production team and ask any questions they have.
Artists who are registered before Nov. 15 are invited to an early seat purchase event on Nov. 15 at the JACC. Otherwise, tickets will go on sale for JAHC members on Dec. 1 and for the general public on Jan. 15.
Proceeds from the Feb. 11 show help support improvements to the JACC. Proceeds from the Feb. 12 show help fund the JAHC’s Fine Arts Scholarship program. There will be a different silent auction at each performance.
