SOLDOTNA — A moose on the Sterling Highway led to two crashes and damage to three vehicles Monday night south of Soldotna.
Alaska State Troopers say 52-year-old Theresa Ann Holman of Kasilof just before 6 p.m. struck a moose near Mile 105.
Troopers were on their way to the scene when a second crash occurred.
Troopers say 55-year-old Frances Ellen Martin of Soldotna took evasive action to dodge the moose and her car collided with a pickup driven by 25-year-old Sue Powell of Sterling, who was also trying to avoid the moose.
Troopers say damage to Holman’s car and Powell’s truck was minor but that damage to Martin’s car was substantial.
All three drivers wore seat belts and were not injured.
Troopers’ spokeswoman Megan Peters says the moose did not survive.
