BETHEL — Police say a 30-hour standoff with a Bethel man who threatened to shoot himself in a home with his children inside has ended with no one hurt and the suspect in custody.
Thirty-four-year-old Dennis Hensley surrendered early Sunday and was arrested without incident. He remains jailed on assault and coercion charges.
A police statement filed in court says officers had responded to the home Friday night to a report of a man threatening to shoot himself, his children and any officers who showed up
Officers say the children were able to leave the house before the suspect opened fire inside the home.
Police had sought help from state troopers, who brought in a negotiator and a Southcentral Special Emergency Reaction Team.
Troopers say Hensley surrendered after a lengthy negotiation.
