Alaska Airlines is looking to stay in Petersburg for the next 50 years. According to a public notice filed Monday, the airline has requested a 50-year lease of 22,500 square feet of space at the airport for “ground equipment storage and miscellaneous storage to support commercial airline operations.”
According to state documents, the airline will pay the state $2,767.50 per year for use of the space at the state-owned airport.
While Alaska Airlines’ half-century lease is a long one, it isn’t unheard of. On Tuesday, Peninsula Airways filed a similar lease request with the state, requesting permission to continue leasing the King Salmon Airport terminal for the next 55 years.
Comments on either lease can be filed with Kimber Amundson at 269-0739 before Feb. 11.
