A jury scam has been reported in Juneau and Sitka where callers falsely identify themselves as law enforcement officers, notify individuals that they have failed to appear for jury service, and state that individuals have warrants out for their arrest and must either turn themselves in or provide money to the caller.
The Juneau and Sitka Police Departments have issued press releases warning of these jury scams.
The Alaska Court system does not attempt to collect money from any person for failing to serve as a juror. Law enforcement will not be sent by the court to anyone’s home to collect unpaid fines for failing to serve as a juror.
Individuals receiving these calls should contact their local police department. If you are able to identify the caller’s phone number, please provide this information to the police.
