The Alaska Division of Forestry is proposing to upgrade a road on Prince of Wales Island as it prepares for a timber sale on state land.
In an announcement Thursday, the division said it plans to widen Aurora Road near the Hollis ferry terminal to reach a state-owned parcel earmarked for harvesting.
The decision on whether to harvest the area has not yet been made, but without improved road access, the division said that adding logging trucks to the road would create hazardous conditions.
The state is taking comments on the proposal through Jan. 14. To submit comments or to get more information, email greg.staunton@alaska.gov.
