Alaska start-up week kicks off with four-business panel

ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN JUNEAU

Alaska startup week officially runs July 23-31, but the Juneau Economic Development Council and the Juneau Chamber of Commerce are marking the occasion two days early with a panel on startups Thursday, July 21, during the normal Chamber luncheon time. Two of the panelists are from Juneau startups that “have endured years in our market,” wrote JEDC communications specialist Dana Herndon in an email. The other two started up within the last year or two.

The participants are Sandro Lane, founder of Taku Smokeries & Taku Fisheries, Sydney Mitchell, owner of Shoefly, Hollis & Lindsey, owners of Bustin’ Out Boutique, and Patrick Courtnage, co-founder of Adventure Flow. The panel will start with an introduction by the JEDC; the introduction will address changes in the economy that affect small business and the state of entrepreneurship locally, state-wide, and nation-wide. The panel is 12 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at the Moose Lodge, 8335 Airport Blvd. Doors open at 11:30 and program begins at noon. Chamber members $20, non-members welcome $25.
