ANCHORAGE — Anchorage police have released the names of two officers who fatally shot a man they said was charging at them with a large butcher knife after they responded to a report about a disturbance at a home.
Police said Friday the two officers involved in the Tuesday evening shooting are patrol Officer Eric Christian and senior patrol Officer Severin Stalmarck.
The man killed was identified as Herman Bean Jr.
Police say the officers responded to 600 block of west 32nd Avenue, and heard a woman screaming from a bedroom and Bean standing near the bedroom with the knife. Police say Bean refused to comply with orders to drop the knife and was shot when he charged at the officers.
The Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals will determine if force was justified.
