ANCHORAGE — Anchorage police are looking for a man suspected of trying to steal a car at gunpoint on the city’s east side.
Police say the suspect may have walked away Thursday from a sport utility vehicle on fire.
A caller just before 8 a.m. reported the car fire on Northern Lights Boulevard near the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Moments later, police took a 911 call from a person who had picked up a man two blocks away.
The caller told police they drove to a nearby fast food restaurant and the passenger attempted to carjack the vehicle at gunpoint.
The driver refused to give up the vehicle and the suspect fled.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s, about 5-feet-5-inches tall, with close-cropped dark hair.
