ANCHORAGE — Homes at higher elevations in Anchorage experienced high wind gusts Tuesday night but the city mostly escaped damage from a storm that blew in from the Bering Sea.
Meteorologist Bill Ludwig of the National Weather Service said Glen Alps recorded wind at 82 mph and a location on the city’s upper Hillside saw a gust of 81 mph.
He said there were quite a few gusts into 70s and 80s and winds that blew to 50 and 60 mph at lower elevations.
Ludwig says he heard of a few power outages and downed trees but the reports were mostly on the city’s east side.
A high wind warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
