ANCHORAGE — Anchorage has had its first measureable snowfall of the season and a rash of accidents along with it.
National Weather Service meteorologist David Kramer said snowfall totals vary across the city Friday morning. Higher elevations on the eastern side of Anchorage had between 5 to 6 inches of snow, but only about 1 to 3 inches accumulated in West Anchorage.
Anchorage police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says in an email that there were 16 accidents Friday morning and another accident with minor injuries. She says 35 vehicles were in distress.
Kramer said the snow should begin to taper off and be just light flurries by Friday afternoon.
The weekend is looking mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid-30s.
