AWARE hosts ‘Wonder Woman’ screening

The new Wonder Woman film has been called a “gloriously badass breath of fresh air” and has been credited with redefining the superhero movie and inspiring a generation of young women.

To celebrate the film’s impact, Juneau’s Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies (AWARE) will host a screening on Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at Gross Alaska Glacier Cinema.

Directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot in the titular role, Wonder Woman has earned $125 million worldwide since its release on June 2, leading all movies at the box office.

AWARE’s Mandi Canady said by phone Wednesday that the group is just hoping to “celebrate AWARE and fierce women everywhere” with the screening. All are invited to the screening of the PG-13 film. Costumes are welcome but not required.

Tickets can be bought at AWARE at 1547 Glacier Highway before 4 p.m. Friday. AWARE is asking $15 for a suggested donation for the event.
