The organizers of the PFD Voter Registration ballot initiative say they’ve reached they halfway mark in their signature-gathering effort.
If enacted, the PFD Voter Registration initiative would allow Alaskans to register to vote or update their voter registration whenever they apply for the Permanent Fund Dividend.
On Monday, PFD Voter Registration reported that it has more than 16,000 signatures on petitions to put the item up for vote in 2016.
Under state law, the campaign must gather 28,545 signatures — 10 percent of the number of Alaskans who participated in the last general election. Those signatures must be spread across the state: 30 of 40 house districts must submit signatures equaling at least 7 percent of their 2014 election turnout.
