While many people like to spend their weekend relaxing on a beach, some Juneauites are starting their weekend with working on a beach.
The U.S. Coast Guard is holding a beach cleanup from 8-11 a.m. Friday along the North Douglas Highway. The cleanup will begin at the North Douglas Boat Ramp and will end at False Outer Point.
This time of year is an active one for those looking to maintain Juneau’s summer destinations, as multiple groups have held cleanup days for trails around town so far this spring. Saturday is National Trails Day, and Trail Mix, Inc. has organized a cleanup for Outer Point Trail from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The Coast Guard’s cleanup is in a similar spot, aiming to pick up trash that might have washed ashore or debris left over from bonfires on the beach.
