BETHEL — The Lower Kuskokwim School District in Bethel is working to open a Yup’ik immersion school in February.
KYUK-AM reports that the district has leased a building from the Bethel Native Corp. for the Ayaprun Yup’ik immersion school.
District officials are working with the fire marshal to make sure the building is up to code and will borrow wall partitions from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp. to create classrooms.
The district will lease the building for three- to- five years while a new school on the district campus is under construction.
