JUNEAU — Two Wasilla Republicans are working to limit special interest groups like Planned Parenthood from teaching in Alaska’s public schools.
Rep. Lynn Gattis introduced her bill during a House Education Committee meeting Wednesday, saying that her intent is to crackdown on such groups gaining access to children.
Gattis’ bill is a companion to one Wasilla Sen. Mike Dunleavy has been working to get passed.
The bills include penalties for violators. Teachers could be fired, doctors could face sanctions from the State Medical Board and abortion services providers could be liable for civil penalties.
Another bill from Dunleavy passed the Senate and is scheduled to be heard by a House committee Thursday. That bill mandates that parents be able to withdraw their children from school activity to which they object.
