Board of Regents announced interim president candidates

Legislative Finance Director Pat Pitney under consideration

The University of Alaska Board of Regents announced Friday morning five candidates under consideration for interim president of the University of Alaska system.

One of the candidates is Director of the Legislative Finance Division and Juneau resident Pat Pitney.

In a teleconference meeting, regents announced the names of the candidates before going into a closed executive session to interview the first candidate. Remaining candidates would be interviewed Friday morning and afternoon, and finished Monday, according to the university.

The four other candidates are former University of Alaska Fairbanks interim chancellor Dana Thomas; UA Acting System President Michelle Rizk; UAF Chancellor Daniel White and UA Anchorage Chancellor Cathey Sandeen.

“Pitney spent 23 years with the University of Alaska as UAF vice chancellor and at UA Statewide for 17 years,” athe UA webpage dedicated to the search for an interim president says. In 1984, Pitney won a gold medal in the air rifle Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Pitney could not immediately be reached for comment.
