A man was found dead floating in the water by a dock near the end of South Franklin Street in downtown Juneau, police said.
Police identified the man as 66-year-old Juneau resident Adrian D’Cafango. Next of kin has been notified.
Sgt. Shawn Phelps told the Empire that someone walking in the area — just past the Alaska Commercial Fishermens’ Memorial and a seafood processing business — discovered the body around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
“There was no signs of trauma whatsoever, but as a standard precaution, the body was sent for an autopsy” at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage, Phelps said by phone.
Phelps said police do not yet know how D’Cafango ended up in the water. No witnesses were immediately found, and there weren’t any obvious clues at the dock.
“It’s early in the investigation,” he said, adding that it’s onoing.
