Interested in running for the Juneau School Board or Assembly? The candidate filing period for this fall’s municipal election opens Aug. 5 at 8 a.m.
Three Assembly seats and two School Board seats are up for grabs in the Oct. 4 election. In order to run for any of the open seats, qualified candidates must file with the city clerk by Aug. 15 at 4:30 p.m.
To qualify for candidacy, applicants must be qualified to vote in state elections and be a resident of the city for at least one year preceding election to office. Any applicant who is disqualified under Article V of the Alaska Constitution will not be allowed to run.
Each of the Assembly and School Board seats is for a three-year term. To run for either the District 1 or District 2 Assembly seats, a candidate must live in the corresponding district. District 1 comprises downtown, Douglas, Twin Lakes and Lemon Creek. District 2 encompasses the Mendenhall Valley, Auke Bay and any homes out the road.
