A car went off Thane Road on Sunday afternoon, police say, leading to a crash that totaled the car and sent two people to the hospital.
At about 4:25 p.m. Sunday, according to a Juneau Police Department news release, multiple people called police to report a crash on Thane Road near the S curves in the avalanche zone closest to downtown. Capital City Fire/Rescue and a JPD officer arrived at the scene shortly after, according to the release, to find a 2009 Subaru Legacy off the road.
The two people in the car — a 27-year-old woman and 29-year-old man — were taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the release states. As of Monday morning, the two were listed in stable condition, according to the release. Police say the car is considered totaled.
BRH spokesperson Katie Bausler said Monday that the woman involved in the crash was not kept at the hospital, and the man in the crash was in stable condition and was going to be released sometime during the day Monday.
Responders determined that the car went off the road because it continued going straight when the road curved to the left. It went down a 15-foot embankment, the release states, and knocked over a power pole. The police investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
