Beginning Sept. 4, the City and Borough of Juneau water utility will begin the annual flushing of the CBJ water distribution system.
CBJ will be clearing out sediment build up during the routine work, which will take place over the next two months. Work crews will flush the downtown area first, then continue north to the hospital area, cross over to Douglas, then to Lemon Creek, the Mendenhall Valley and Tee Harbor.
Customers may encounter water discoloration or minor disruptions of service during the flushing. To clear the discolored water, which is safe to drink, first wait until the work crew leaves the area, then run the cold water tap (preferably in a bathtub) until the water runs clear.
