Capital City Fire/Rescue firefighters put out a small fire in a two-story house on Glacier Highway Tuesday afternoon.
CCFR responded to the home, 10903 Glacier Highway, at 1:21 p.m. Tuesday, according to a CCFR press release.
Responding firefighters found smoke on the ground floor of the home and located the fire in a utility room. The flames were quickly extinguished, with only minor fire and smoke damage to the home, CCFR Fire Marshal Dan Jager said in the release.
Jager said the fire was caused as a result of cooking oil being heated up by a portable propane burner.
“The oil ignited and started to burn the wooden cabinets and contents in the room,” Jager said in the statement.
The home was insured. The homeowner, who attempted to extinguish the fire with a portable fire extinguisher before CCFR arrived, was not injured in the incident, CCFR said.
“Capital City Fire Rescue wants to strongly remind residents to never leave cooking unattended and to be sure there are working smoke alarms in your home,” the CCFR release states.
