A Juneau man connected to a string of thefts in 2015 has been sentenced to two years in jail after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors.
Albert Mazon, 26, was sentenced last month in Juneau Superior Court. Sentencing documents were released to the Empire on Tuesday.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Mazon pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and four charges of second-degree theft were dismissed. Mazon will be credited for time already spent behind bars.
In August 2015, the Juneau Police Department arrested Mazon for stealing three handguns from a home on Glacier Highway a few miles south of the Shrine of St. Therese.
Mazon was arrested at the scene of another burglary and at the time was connected to others in Juneau, including one in which a Capital City Fire/Rescue firefighter’s bunker gear was stolen.
Mazon was placed in a halfway house after his August arrest and promply escaped. He was re-arrested and later pleaded guilty to the escape.
Mazon’s jail time in that case will be served concurrently with his time for the thefts.
According to court records, Mazon has a criminal history including more than a decade of petty activity ranging from underage drinking to misdemeanor theft.
