The Juneau-Douglas City Museum tells the story of Juneau’s past, but also strives to give visitors a look at the present.
Each year, the museum features exhibitions of local artists, and applications are now open for the 2018-19 season. Artists or groups looking to put on a show during that season (which runs from November 2018 to February 2019) have until Aug. 31 of this year to apply for a spot.
Any and all types of artists are invited to apply, as the museum is open to any kind of media. The museum is seeking works of art that help to support the museum’s mission of raising “awareness of Juneau’s cultural heritage, values and community memory” in order to teach and to “find purpose for the future.”
Artists are asked to submit five examples of past or current work to represent the type of work they plan to display, as well as an image list that corresponds with those examples, a brief exhibit statement and a resume. Artists should also be prepared to hang their exhibit, produce labels and supply promotional posters and postcards for their show. Applications can be picked up at the museum or downloaded from the museum’s website, www.juneau.org/library/museum.
