Due to mild weather, the city will open Montana Creek Road ahead of schedule this season.
The road in the Mendenhall Valley sits just beyond the Hank Harmon Rifle Range. Facilities, Parks and Landscape Superintendent Brent Fischer said access to the road is restricted by a gate typically until May 1. Officials are granting access now because of higher than expected temperatures for this time of year. Fischer said without melting snow in the area, flooding near parked cars is no longer a concern.
Northwest from the end of Montana Creek Road is a trail for recreational activities such as hiking, nature viewing and camping.
The gate is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 586-5226.
