A Coast Guard Station Ketchikan boat crew transported a man to local emergency medical personnel in Ketchikan on Tuesday.
The crew medevaced an ailing mariner from fishing vessel SV Velvet, 16 miles southeast of Ketchikan, after receiving a request for help from a crew member aboard the vessel. The captain was experiencing a non-specific medical emergency, according to a press release.
“Our operational crews are ready to respond to emergency medical situations at all times,” said Vince Grochowski, a search and rescue controller at Sector Juneau. “Providing ambulatory services to Alaska mariners for unpredictable injuries or illness falls under the Coast Guard’s priority of ensuring the safety of life at sea.”
Weather during the incident was reportedly clear, calm and 36 degrees.
