The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a 96-year-old man from a cruise ship near Juneau.
On Monday evening, the crew of the ship Explorer of the Seas radioed Coast Guard District 17, saying the man had suffered a heart attack. The Coast Guard’s duty flight surgeon recommended the man be transported to shore, and the Coast Guard launched a response boat with medical technicians aboard.
The boat transported the man to Coast Guard Station Juneau and a waiting ambulance.
“A case like this highlights the training and proficiency of our boat crewmembers,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard Kuhnis, a crewmember on the response boat, in a prepared statement. “Shortly after we received the call, we were able to respond quickly and get the patient to a higher level of care.”
