The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a Juneau man Friday night after he got lost while deer hunting near Oliver Inlet on Admiralty Island.
According to an online dispatch from Alaska State Troopers, 35-year-old Kyle Paddleford missed a rendezvous with his friends at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. Troopers said Paddleford’s friends searched for him for about three and a half hours before they returned to Douglas and reported him missing.
Just before 7:30 p.m., Paddleford reached a point where he had cell service and called 911.
“He advised that he was uninjured and had gotten lost trying to reach the rendezvous point,” the dispatch states.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Sitka had already been dispatched to find Paddleford, and it picked him near Green Cove, about two miles east of Oliver Inlet. He was taken to Juneau International Airport.
