As Juneau’s senior population continues to grow, issues facing that group are becoming increasingly important for the city.
The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly recently voted to reconfigure the Juneau Commission on Aging, and members of the public can learn more about it at an open meeting Monday afternoon. The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
After public meetings in May and June, the Assembly passed a resolution in August to change the membership structure and overall mission of the Commission on Aging. The nine-member commission will now have five members aged 65 or above and four members without any age requirement. The commission’s aim is now defined as building a coalition of established groups and support programs working on senior issues.
The CBJ is actively recruiting members of the commission. For those interested, there’s an application on the CBJ’s website that people can either email to the Clerk’s Office at city.clerk@juneau.org or bring to City Hall in person. For more information, Deputy City Clerk Beth McEwen is available at 523-0203 or beth.mcewen@juneau.org.
