JUNEAU — Congress has passed legislation allowing for the sale of about nine acres of federally held property in Anchorage to the city.
In announcing the bill’s passage Monday, Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Don Young said this would be a positive for all involved.
Young said it would reduce the federal government’s footprint of unused properties and provide significant benefit to Anchorage residents. Sullivan said Anchorage will be able to acquire a viable plot of developable land, which he said is becoming increasingly scarce in and around Alaska’s largest city.
The bill calls for the federal General Services Administration to offer to convey to the property to the city of Anchorage for no less than fair market value.
