ANCHORAGE — A 54-year-old Copper Center woman has died after she was struck by a vehicle as she stood in the roadway on the Glenn Highway.
Alaska State Troopers say Susan Voyles had notified troopers just before she was struck early Friday morning that she a box from her vehicle and was going to look for it.
Troopers say that shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, a 24-year-old driver identifying himself as Andrey Ionashku called troopers to report his vehicle had struck a woman standing in the road at milepost 178 of the highway.
According to troopers, Ionashku came upon a stopped car with its headlights on in the oncoming lane. Troopers say Ionashku was unable to avoid striking the person who appeared in the roadway as he was passing the vehicle.
