The man found dead on Saturday by a hiker near Gastineau Avenue has been identified as 23-year-old Brandon Shaun Estes.
The Juneau Police Department said Thursday morning that foul play is not suspected, and Estes’ family has been notified.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Estes was found about 2 p.m. Saturday by a hiker in the mudslide chute above Gastineau Avenue. His body was about 500 feet from the roadway.
Detectives were still looking into establishing a timeline for when Estes was last seen, which might have been about a month ago, said Lt. David Campbell.
“He had been in the woods for weeks,” Campbell said, adding that his office was trying to confirm whether Estes had been reported missing.
“There were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play,” Campbell said. “We are waiting for toxicology results, but those can take four to eight weeks. We won’t have a final autopsy report until then.”
