Donations welcome for outdoor gear, Thanksgiving food

Fall is coming to an end, and for Juneau’s skiers, it’s all downhill from here.

The annual Ski Sale can help people get prepared for a winter of skiing, giving people a chance to buy new and used outdoor gear for the winter. The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Centennial Hall. Admission is $5, for those 13 and older. Children 12 and younger are free. One attendee will win a season pass to Eaglecrest Ski Area.

People with items to donate to the sale are welcome to drop off gear at Centennial Hall on the two days leading up to the sale and on the day itself. Check-in is open from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, 4:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, and the minimum sale price per item is $5. Any item deemed too old or unsafe is prohibited, and unsold items must be picked up between 4-5 p.m. the day of the sale.

The Ski Sale also marks the Glory Hole’s second annual Giving Thanks initiative. People who bring a Thanksgiving non-perishable food item to the Ski Sale will receive a free cup of coffee as they stand in line, starting at 6:30 a.m. Food items will be accepted both at the sale itself and during check-in times. These food items will help the Glory Hole plan for the 250 or more Thanksgiving baskets the shelter prepares every year.
