Residential open burning in Lemon Creek and Mendenhall Valley is still prohibited, according to a Capital City Fire/Rescue information release.
Temperature inversions, caused by cool temperatures, prevent smoke from rising and dissipating. Instead, it hangs low in the atmosphere where it can irritate people with asthma, bronchitis, COPD and respiratory infections.
Permits for residential open burning are free and will be available at the start of May when open burning is allowed citywide.
