An errant eagle knocked out power to much of Juneau on Sunday morning, according to Alaska Electric Light and Power.
AEL&P outage logs state that the outage began at 9:07 a.m. and ended at 9:53 a.m., affecting 10,836 homes and businesses in the process.
AEL&P spokeswoman Debbie Driscoll said by email it isn’t uncommon to see eagles feeding on or around equipment near the Capitol Landfill. AEL&P does use flashers and visual diverters to dissuade eagles, but they aren’t completely effective.
The eagle did not survive.
