Eaglecrest Ski Area will not be closing quite as early as expected. The ski area, previously slated to halt operations Sunday, will stay open an extra weekend, according to a Friday news release.
After this weekend, Eaglecrest will open the beginner area around the Porcupine chairlift for the weekend of March 19–20. It will not be open during the week, and it will close indefinitely starting March 21.
If the ski area gets more snow, it may reopen the Ptarmigan chairlift for skiing and snowboarding, but it will not reopen the Snowsports School, the Rental Shop or the lower mountain lifts.
Though it was a bit shorter than normal, this season lasted 60 days longer than last year’s disappointing five-day season, “with consistently impressive conditions across the upper reaches of the mountain,” the release reads.
Hikers will still be able to reach the upper portions of the mountain, but Eaglescrest staff members recommend caution and “proper backcountry equipment.”
