Traffic control revisions will limit access to Egan Drive for motorist traveling from Riverside Drive today.
Starting at 8 a.m., a road crew will cover the area to replace a damaged traffic signal pole, according to a press release from the City and Borough of Juneau. City officials did not give an estimated completion time.
The repairs follow an incident that occurred Wednesday morning when a Refuse driver brought down a telephone line while making a right turn onto Riverside Drive. The driver attempted to pass Vintage Boulevard while a trash lifting bar was still raised on the back of the truck.
An Alaska communications employee on the scene during the incident said the wire, which had to be cut for repairs, controlled an estimated 700 phone lines in the area. Later in the day the city manager’s clerk office released a statement that phones, Internet and email service at the Dimond Park Aquatic center were also affected.
