A Juneau Empire employee, who recently returned from a personal trip outside the City and Borough of Juneau, learned Thursday evening that they have tested positive for COVID-19.
The reporter, whose symptoms are mild, will continue to self-isolate at home and is working with public health officials to investigate how they contracted the illness.
This person has not been in the Empire offices since early last week — before their Thursday through Sunday trip — and has been self-isolating since being tested Monday for COVID-19.
Reporters have been working from home since early March, and this person will not return to the offices until well after they test negative for COVID-19.
The Empire’s top priority remains the health and safety of employees, and it also has a responsibility to support the community, those who are vulnerable and the health care providers who are on the front lines of this pandemic.
The Empire continues to follow all state and federal guidelines and will continue to monitor the situation closely while working with public health officials.
