JUNEAU — The executive director of the Alaska Democratic party is retiring after 5 ½ years.
Party spokesman Jake Hamburg says Kay Brown will step down in January. The party is seeking applications for Brown’s successor through Dec. 2.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Alaska Republican party announced that it had hired Joshua Walton to be its executive director, with Walton, a former legislative aide and campaign manager, taking over the party’s day-to-day operations effective immediately.
In a release, the Democratic party said Brown is its longest-serving executive director.
Brown is a former state representative who has been involved in party politics since at least 2005.
In the release, Brown said she plans to stay involved in politics in some capacity.
