FAIRBANKS — A cafe at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital has been identified as one of several Banner Health facilities across the nation affected by two recent cyberattacks.
Banner Health said Thursday it is mailing letters to 3.7 million people whose information may have been compromised by the computer hacks, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
Those who could have been affected include patients, health plan members and beneficiaries, food and beverage customers, and physicians and other health care providers.
The first hack discovered July 7 targeted credit card data as it passed through payment processing systems.
“Payment cards used at food and beverage outlets at certain Banner Health locations during the two-week period between June 23, 2016, and July 7, 2016, may have been affected,” Banner Health said in a Thursday news release.
The company’s investigation determined the attack did not affect card payments for medical services.
In the other attack detected July 13, Banner Health said hackers might have obtained access to patient information at its facilities across the nation.
“The patient and health plan information may have included names, birthdates, addresses, physicians’ names, dates of service, claims information and possibly health insurance information and Social Security numbers, if provided to Banner Health,” the release says.
Banner Health said not all patients or health plan members were affected by the breach.
