FAIRBANKS — A competitive body builder from Fairbanks suspected of ordering thousands of dollars’ worth of steroids from China has been arrested.
Thirty-one-year-old Joshua Makkar was arraigned Tuesday on one count of attempted misconduct involving a controlled substance.
U.S. Customs officers in California seized a package in June with a Fairbanks address and Alaska State Troopers announced an investigation.
The package contained 1,200 anabolic steroid tablets and 11 vials of liquid testosterone.
Troopers estimated the street value of the substances at $65,000.
Troopers say Makkar acknowledged ordering the substances from China and that he intended to use them in preparation for a body-building competition.
Online court records did not list an attorney for Makkar.
