FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks police chief has resigned, days after he was reinstated following a month on leave amid an investigation into allegations of possible conflict-of-interest violations.
Randall Aragon’s resignation was effective Friday. The resignation was announced Monday by Fairbanks Mayor Jim Matherly in a news release.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported Aragon was put on administrative leave Sept. 22 by former mayor John Eberhart, who also reinstated Aragon on Oct. 19. Matherly took over as mayor Oct. 25 and put Aragon back on leave.
There is no telephone listing for Aragon and he could not be reached by The Associated Press for comment Monday.
The chief was placed on administrative leave after former police Chief Dan Hoffman asked the City Council to investigate Aragon. Hoffman said he received a report from a business owner of “unethical activity” by Aragon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
