FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks woman is going to the top of a New York skyscraper the hard way.
Fairbanks radio station KFAR reports Kristen Rozell will compete in this year’s Empire State Building Run-Up on Wednesday.
Participants will run up 86 flights, which is the equivalent of 1,576 stairs, in the New York City landmark building. Andrea Mayr of Austria holds the women’s record, winning the race in 2006 in in 11 minutes, 23 seconds.
Participants get a break coming down; they get to take the elevator. It’s also a lot faster, taking about a minute to descend the 86 floors.
Rozell is looking forward to the challenge, even though she’s more accustomed to a flatter course. She’s competed in 20 marathons.
