One of the biggest buildings in Juneau’s skyline is getting a makeover starting this week.
The Hurff Ackerman Saunders Federal Building is undergoing a few renovation projects, including a complete replacement of the roof, according to a release from the U.S. General Services Administration.
Crews will begin work this Wednesday, June 13. The first stages of work will begin on the lower tower roof of the building and workers will set up netting along the Ninth Avenue roof lines of the building. For people’s safety, parking will be closed along this area after 5:30 p.m. each evening.
Demolition of the roof is expected to take about three days, and parking will be open at all hours after that.
Projects to the building will include a new roof, a parking lot fence update, improvements to the childcare center playground and preservation of the marble and bronze facades.
