A residential fire displaced a family from their mobile home Friday night.
At approximately 6:49 p.m. Friday,Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to the fire in Switzer Village mobile home park, Fire Marshal Daniel Jager said in a press release. Upon arrival, fire personnel found the mobile home engulfed in flames.
The occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped without any injuries, Jager said.
The fire was quickly extinguished. A fire origin and cause investigation was conducted and it was determined that the cause of the fire was due to the use of a charcoal barbecue grill on a combustible wood deck, the press release stated. The American Red Cross responded and is providing assistance to the family.
Capital City Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to be sure their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries and to check that they work. With Daylight Savings Time having started Sunday, it’s a good time to change your clocks and change your batteries in all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
