On Thursday morning within a three-hour time frame, five separate motor vehicle collisions occurred after a cold night that left roads in icy conditions.

Erann Kalwara, public safety manager for the Juneau Police Department, said an ambulance was called to the scene for an incident involving juveniles who potentially sustained injuries. She said JPD also called Capital City Fire/Rescue for assistance with cleaning up fluids due to one of the wrecks.

The collisions occurred between 7:57 and 11:17 a.m., according to Kalwara.

“An ambulance was only called for one collision,” she stated in an email to the Empire. “That was the first collision that occurred at 7:57 that created significant traffic problems. Three vehicles were towed from the scene. One child was evaluated by medics on scene for injuries and one child was transported to BRH for evaluation as a precaution. The roadway was cleared at about 9:28.”

Kalwara said one car accident took place inbound at Vanderbilt, one at Glacier Highway near Blackerby Street, one at Vanderbilt Hill at Egan, one at Egan at Vanderbilt, and another on Glacier Highway at Vanderbilt.
